Malaysia, Philippines, China and eSports
We were delighted to see the Jakarta Asian Games held last August 2018 fearure eSports as a demonstration sport. Although not yet recognized as a medal event, Malaysian Star Online reported (https://www.thestar.com.my/tech/tech-news/2018/11/28/esports-recognised-as-a-medal-sport-in-sea-games-2019/#wZrVqJhS7OZSG3xk.99) that eSports will indeed be featured as a medal event in the 2022 Asian Games to be held in China. But will we really have to wait that long?
The Philippines take the lead
As reported by ESPN Philippines (http://tv5.espn.com/story/_/id/25396582/esports-officially-added-medal-sport-2019-sea-games), the news is now official. The Southeast Asian nation will host eSports as a medal event during the SEA Games next year. Gaming company Razer, famous for its hardware products, will sponsor the Philippines eSports team, according to a statement by CSO Limeng Lee, whose aspiration is to bring the contestants on the global stage.
